The Bozeman Senior Center has numerous special events and activities that occur throughout the year. Fall Festival is held every October and in addition to a special lunch, includes: a Plant Sale, Bake Sale, Homemade Pies, a Gift Shop, a Christmas Shop, Woodworker’s Shop, a basement full of rummage items, and our newest addition, an antique collector’s table! And of course, a fabulous raffle. Raffle prizes have included a round-trip airline ticket anywhere within the continental U.S.A., given by the Travel Station, $100.00 in cash, dinner for two at the Branding Iron Steakhouse, and a $25.00 gift certificate to the Community Food Co-op. Fall Festival has been the major fund-raiser for the Bozeman Senior Center for more than 25 years. What started as a small arts and crafts fair has grown into a two-day event.Bridge lessons are for anyone who wants to learn or has never played bridge. You can get entry-level lessons or sharpen your skills if you know the basics. Bridge is played every Wednesday and Friday afternoons at 12:45. You do not need a partner to play. Come and enjoy a fun afternoon. Pinochle and Cribbage card games are each Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. you do not need to have a partner, just come and enjoy the afternoon. Our Recreation Room, finished in 2004, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Monday through Friday. It has 2 pool tables to enjoy, also a TV, and a wonderful library full of books for your enjoyment. Books may be read in the room or purchased: 50 cents for hard backs and 25 cents for paperbacks. A Summer Sunday in the Park is hosted by the Senior Center every August in Centennial Park. Free ice cream, an exhibit of antique and collectible cars owned by members of the Bozeman Antique Auto Club, horse and buggy rides, and performances by singing groups make this an "old-time classic" event. The Spring Fling is being planned to celebrate the end of winter and the coming of the marvelous Rocky Mountain spring season. A raffle, an antique show, a dance, a barbeque, and a silent auction are some of the special activities that may be included. Seniors of the Year. Each year outstanding seniors from each Area Agency in Montana are honored at the annual Governor's Conference on Aging. This is a state-wide event held in communities throughout Montana. Since the Senior of the Year Award began in 1984, Gallatin County has had several outstanding seniors recognized on the state level. These include: Dr Anna Pearl Sherrick, 1984; Louis Moos, 1985; Harold Dusenberry, 1987; John Bower, 1991; Grace Melton, 1993; Dorothy and Torlief Aasheim, 1999; Marshall Gray, 2000; Willard Harper, 2002; and Marie Gambill, 2003. Centenarians: In 2004, the State unit on Aging adopted a new program, recognizing our oldest senior citizens. At the Governor's Conference on Aging, Centenarians from around the State of Montana have been honored. Gallatin County has had three Centenarians honored: Sue Roughton in 2004 and Florence Carter in 2005, and Gladys Olsen in 2007, all of the ladies were over 100 years of age when they were honored. Volunteers to help with the various activities and special events are warmly welcomed. The Monthly Schedule will list all of the special activities and events for the month they are scheduled as well as any others that are not included on this page.
