GET INVOLVED!

I would like to invite members, both seasoned and new, to consider contributing your time and energy as a Senior Center volunteer. Did you know that we have over 75 active volunteers, contributing many hours each year? Just think how different our community would look like without all of our fabulous volunteers. Not sure how to volunteer? Talk with Shannon Bondy, 388.4711 or belgradesrcntr@bresnan.net. There’s a place for everyone, whether you want to teach a class, weed the garden, flip pancakes, join a board committee, or join our newly formed Advocacy Workgroup. Speaking of advocacy...what is it?

Why do we need advocacy at Belgrade Senior Center?

• Advocacy is communicating the crucial role human services play, and the value of services for seniors and people with disabilities.

Advocacy is demonstrating the need for secure and dedicated funding. The Senior Center receives governmental funds each year. We need to ensure that funding continues in the future.

• Advocacy is building awareness within Belgrade Senior Center and amongst community alliances for the need to mobilize.

• Advocacy is developing powerful and relevant messages and marketing positive stories.

Please consider getting involved in the Advocacy Workgroup to ensure that services for seniors like our Senior Center continue to be adequately funded in the future. See me for how you can join!

Shannon Bondy, Director

Tap dancing is great exercise and so much fun. Phyllis Morrison has been tapping since she was 7 years old! You will be starting with a basic tap step called the time step. Instruction will be slow and easy, so don’t be intimidated if you have never tapped. Bring tap shoes if you have them, and don’t dress too warmly. Once you learn the basic steps, we will be offering an intermediate class to help you progress towards becoming a phenomenal tap dancer. Come and observe the class first if you would just like to see what is involved.

Bake Sale – August 21, 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. - The Belgrade Senior Center has a bake sale on the third Thursday of each month allowing you to purchase sticky buns, cookies, and pies. You’ll find everything from chocolate chip cookies to lemon pies. All items are baked and donated from different members of our center. The bake sale has been a wonderful fundraiser each month. A heartfelt thank-you to Dolla Weaver, Jan Becker, Marj Schaper, Frances Batchelder, and Donna Barnaby for consistently purchasing ingredients and making homemade items for the bake sale. If you have some extra time available and would be willing to make a pie or cookies, please call Shannon at 388-4711. We are always looking for new volunteers to help with the bake sale.

Enjoy a beautiful brunch along with wedding cake. Brunch cost is $5.00/person and you must sign up ahead of time. We’d love to have any other couples willing to make that trip down the aisle once again participate in this special event. Don’t fret if your spouse is no longer with you, we need bridesmaids and groomsmen to complete the ceremony!
